Coming off the Bandera 100K a month ago, I am now ready to get back to some type of regular training schedule. That was the plan this past week. I was successful on the fronts of yoga, running, and even swimming. Cycling? Not so much. But I tried...twice.
The first attempt was a spin class on Friday at noon. I finished my early AM run and headed up to the health club only to find I goofed up my days and the spin class was THURSDAY, not Friday. So I opted for the weights/lift class instead. Not quite the same.
The second attempt was on Saturday for the "Fred Ride". As we left our house via car to drive up to Fred's, the heavy fog turned into rain. I called Fred to ask him if we should bring trainers. "Nah, it's dry here." But in the course of the 25 min drive from our house to Fred's, the dry turned into wet. 20 minutes on our bike in cool, windy rain with virtually no front or rear breaks, I turned to Leary and said, "I don't want to ride 50 miles in this today." He agreed. So did others around us. We attempted to salvage the ride by doing hill repeats but to no avail. 20 minutes later we were dry, warm, and enjoying bagels and coffee at Einsteins.
Fred did have a point, "What if its cold and raining during RAAM?" We'll deal with it then. But for now, if I have a choice to bail, I will....especially if coffee and bagels are the alternative.
So this week I will give it another attempt to get on my bike in some capacity. The weatherperson is predicting snow. Bagels anyone?
